Carbitalia S.r.l. is one of the oldest Italian industries in the production of calcium carbide.

The factory was founded 1927 under the name "Elettrochimica dell 'Adda" in Lecco (Italy), in consideration of the easy availability of raw materials (limestone for the production of lime, coke, electricity and l water for cooling electric ovens).

In 1974 the company name was changed to "Carbitalia S.r.l" and the shareholding was taken over by the major Italian producers of technical and industrial gases.

The development of the new company and the need to increase production led to the replacement of old furnaces with 2 modern production furnaces.

In 2011 Carbitalia S.r.l. successfully concluded the REACH registration process related to Calcium Carbide.
Currently, the annual production is about 30,000 tons.
