REACH is the Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemical Substances. It entered into force on 1 June 2007 to make the previous legislative framework on chemicals in the European Union (EU) more effective and improved. REACH gives industry greater responsibility for managing the risks that chemicals can pose to health and the environment.
In principle, REACH applies to all chemicals; not only to chemicals used in industrial processes, but also to those used in everyday life, for example in cleaning products, paints and articles such as clothing, furniture and electrical appliances.
What is the SDS?
The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is the most significant technical document for information on chemicals and their mixtures, as they contain the necessary information on the physico-chemical, toxicological and environmental hazard properties necessary for correct and safe handling of substances and mixtures.
The provisions for the preparation of the SDS are present in the EC regulation n. 1907/2006 (REACH regulation).
